2004

William Leahy, 2004 Sheedy Award

Teresa Ghilarducci, 2004-2005 Kaneb Teaching Award

2005

David Betson was named a National Associate of the National Academy of Science for his contributions to the mission of the Academy and to the National Research Council of supplying scientific advice to the federal government.

Omar Dahi, graduate assistant to Professor David Ruccio, won the internal Distinguished Graduate Student Teaching award and the Graduate Teaching Award given by the Kaneb Center.

2006

Philip Mirowski: Ludwig Fleck Prize, awarded annually for the best book (Effortless Economy of Science?) in the area of science and technology studies by the Society for Social Studies of Science. Professor Mirowski was honored with a special symposium (author meets the critics session), at the Annual meeting of the Society for the Social Studies of Science, Vancouver, Nov. 2006.

Amitava Dutt: Mukherjee Memorial Lecture, Indian Society of Labor Economics

Martin Wolfson, Grenville Clark Award for service to the causes of peace and human rights.

2007

Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization, (June 2007, Volume 63, Issue 2, pp. 207-372) is devoted entirely to a symposium on a paper by Philip Mirowski entitled “Markets comes to bits”. It contains an introduction, Phil’s paper, comments by 16 economists and computer scientists, and a reply by Phil.

Teresa Ghilarducci received three prestigious appointments:

  • Trustee, General Motors Retiree Health Fund (by the Michigan Superior Court)
  • Wurf Fellow, non resident scholar, Harvard University School of Law, Labor and Worklife Project
  • Commissioner on the Public Employee Post-Employment Benefits Commission, State of California (by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger)

  • Appointed by the Governor to the Washington State Commission on Child Support Guideline Review
  • Invited participant in roundtable discussion with New York City officials todiscuss implementation of the NAS recommendations for measuring poverty

Martin Wolfson

  • Member of the Coordinating committee of the community Forum for Economic Development, South Bend, Indiana
  • Citizen representative to the Committee on Community and Economic Development, South Bend, Common Council

Jennifer Warlick, Collaborating with Britt Magneson, Director of Government Funded
Programs, South Bend Community School Corporation to measure student mobility and
design interventions to reduce it. Awarded Ganey Mini-Grant, April 2008, for proposal
entitled, “Reducing School Switching to Increase Student Achievement.”
